BPC Action Calls on Congress to Move the “Foundations for Evidence-Based Policymaking Act” in Government Reform

BPC Action pushes for the enactment of approaches that enable evidence-informed policymaking to occur in government, ensuring decisionmakers have reliable, relevant, and timely information to guide their decisions. We encourage development of policies that promote secure access to data, privacy and confidentiality protections, and sufficient capacity to generate a portfolio of evidence that can be used in policymaking.

Washington, D.C.– Today, BPC Action commends House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senator Patty Murray for their bipartisan cooperation in filing the Foundations for Evidence-Based Policymaking Act of 2017.  Speaker Ryan and Senator Murray followed through on their commitment to take swift action on implementing the 22 recommendations from the U.S. Commission on Evidence-Based Policymaking presented to Congress on September 7, and the introduction of this legislation marks an important first step. This bipartisan bill includes numerous recommendations of the Commission and would make significant progress in achieving the vision of more and better evidence being used in our country as a foundation for policymaking.  The bipartisan legislation, developed with technical assistance and support from BPC’s Evidence-Based Policymaking Initiative, continues the spirit of cooperation and bipartisanship demonstrated by the Commission through its unanimous recommendations.

BPC Action applauds Speaker Ryan and Senator Murray’s commitment to making government more effective for the American public.

“BPC Action applauds Speaker Ryan and Senator Murray’s commitment to making government more effective for the American public,” said BPC Action Executive Director Michele Stockwell. “BPC Action now encourages the House and Senate to quickly consider and advance this legislation to enact these unanimous Commission recommendations.”
